"The Jungle"

"The Jungle"

By Omar R.

As I cut the jungle green vines to clear my path to safety.
After hours of cutting and cutting exhaustion came, without a bit of rest lately.
I come across a beautiful site a small paradise not harmed by a human.
There were monkeys, panthers, parrots and leopards I was the only man.
To see these animals that were supposed to be hunter and the prey living with peace.
The tiger had black spots on top of his beautiful golden fleece

In the back you can see a graceful waterfall I went and swam in the water as blue as the  seas.
As the monkeys learned not to hit me, they for some reason checked me for fleas.
I taught the monkeys to play  baseball, basketball I was bombarded being beat by monkeys that a first.
The trees grew fruits that I would give the world to taste the fruit that we feasted on.
As we ate together I saw the alligator eat a white swan.

After many days we had all become great friends knowing what we need to do.
I began to think that it was time to leave and pay my due.
As a left all the animals came and gave me a hug and I said my goodbyes and left.

Today this day I wished that I could return, one day I will see them again and maybe I will feel what I felt.

The Curious Incident of The Dog in The Night Time

Prompt: Describe a character that you would like to meet (which doesn’t mean that you think you would like the character, but that you think the character would be
interesting). List 4 questions that you would ask. 2.)Do any of the characters feeling change as you’ve read? Explain why or why not. 3.)Are the characters realistic (do they seem like they could be read people)? Why or why not?

I would like to meet Christopher because he is extremely smart, kind, and clever. My first question to Christopher would be what is his earliest memory and how did this affect his live?  Why do the colors yellow and brown bother him so much and what is the worst thing that he has done after seeing the color?  Has he ever fought someone and if so why?  What is 84538 multiplied by 29385 and what is the answer divided by 3.14? Answer 2484149130 and 791036713.37579617.

The feeling that have changed from the beginning of the book is from Christopher's dad.  My feeling have changed from the beginning because he hits Christopher after Christopher hit him. Even though Christopher hit him first he knows that his son had special needs and one of those it not being touched and his dad grabbed him by the arm. Another reason that my feeling have changed is that he hid a secret from Christopher that is very important to his live. The final reason that my feeling have changed is that Christopher's dad took away his book he was writing.

The characters in the book are some of the most realistic I have ever read. One reason that I believe that these characters are realistic is that they show emotion. On example of this would be Christopher's dad because he get mad so mad that he throws out Christopher book because he told him to stop writing.  Another example is when Christopher keeps looking around on who killed wellington even though his dad told him to stop, this shows that his curiosity overpowers what his dad says.  Christopher has Aspergers syndrome and the way he think or moves are just how someone with this syndrome act. Also parent that live with a child that has Aspergers syndrome adjust with the changes that come with having a child with needs that are special, and Christopher's father does this just like most parent would.

Global collaboration reflection

What was your level of global awareness before entering 7th grade? How have your collaborations and projects with your Indian and Swedish pen pals changed your level of global awareness? How has your perspective on other cultures changed through your collaboration? What has been the most interesting/shocking/funny thing you have learned so far?

My global awareness was at a high level before entering 7th grade. I knew most of the important events that were happening in the world.  I knew most of the events that were happening thanks to the internet and T.V where I saw the news or a website talking about what happened around the Earth. Thanks to our world cultures class, I was able to learn about other cultures around the world in 6th grade. This made me more aware of other cultures from other countries only at a lower level. My global awareness was also greatly influenced by my family and the food we ate and the books we read or I read.

After our global collaboration my global awareness has increased expeditiously because I have learned similarities and difference between my pen pals and me.  Our Indian pen pals and us play sports such as basketball, volleyball, and football we both played these sports because they are fun or good for our health. While one difference is that they play a game called cricket that is similar to baseball and that also play a game called Kho-Kho which is a slight different verse on tag but played like a sport.  Our Swedish pen pals and us have many thing in common, one the thing that we have in common is that both of our schools have fairly small classrooms and with multiple desks to do our work. One major difference between our schools is that they do not wear shoes at their school while we do.

My perspective on other cultures have changes after out global collaboration project.  I now know that the most popular sports in India are basketball, volleyball, Kho-Kho,football,tennis, and cricket.  One of the major companies there makes different types of yarn.  After our collaboration project I believe that cooking is a very important part of the Swedish culture because they have a class to learn to cook when they are just in middle school.  Another thing that I learned about Sweden is that education is very important because they have better equipment  and I believe it is cleaner

The most interesting thing that I learned from my  Swedish pen pals was that they had such a gigantic school. I found this shocking because it seemed to be the same size a Morton high school even though it is a middle school.  I found it funny how the student in the Sweden did not have to wear their shoes in school. One thing that I found interesting about our Indian pen pals is how formal their school uniform was they had to wear ties and a formal shirts which is something that most public middle schools in America don't do. Our Indian pen pals play the game Kho-Kho which is a different version of tag which is played as a sport which I found very interesting.

The Curious Incident of The Dog in The Night Time 2/16

Prompt: 1.) Do you like what you’re reading? Why or why not? 2.) Describe the main characters. 3.)In 4-6 sentences, describe several insights you’ve gained from your reading.
Pages 0-72
The Curious Incident of The Dog in The Night Time from what I have read is an amazing book to read. I have enjoyed reading this book because it gives a point of view that is not as seen much, which a 15 year  3 months 3 day old boy with Asperger's syndrome.  This allows you to enter the mine of a intelligent but trouble young man that literally takes everything serious as if it was true. Another reason that I truly enjoyed reading the book is that most mystery books have a person be killed but this one has a dog killed and this is not a spoiler it is in the cover.  The book also talks about physics and math which are two of my favorite subject and finds a way to fit them both in the book in a proper way.

The main character is Christopher Boone and he lives in small city in Swindon in the U.K. He is very intelligent for his age. In page 57 paragraph 5 line 1 and 2 Christopher say "And after I've taken A level Maths I am going to A level Further Maths and Physics and then I can go to university." Which is a big accomplishment considering he is 15 years old. Christopher as well as Asperger's syndrome which makes him hate the color yellow and brown he has trouble taking to other and does not understand metaphor, taking literally.  He is trying to solve the mystery of who killed the dog Wellington against his father best wishes. Christopher is "writing" the book in his world so that adds  another layer to his character.

One insight that I have gained from reading is that people with Asperger's syndrome take thing you say to them seriously.  People with Asperger's syndrome do not like the color yellow the reason for this I do not know.  In the U.K there are different levels of math and physics A being the highest and it is not told what is the lowest level. Someone with Asperger's syndrome can have vast knowledge and great memories in certain cases.  Patient with Asperger's syndrome have a harder time socializing with others.

Poetry reflection

For my poetry book reflection I choose the poem "Raven".   The poem the Raven is about a man that is reading a books one night and suddenly he hears a tapping at his chamber door. When he  goes and checks the door nothing is there and returns back to read but when he starts to read he hears the words " Nevermore".  As he looks around he finds a raven he chases the raven he reaches a picture of deceased wife and he feels depressed knowing that he will never see his wife again.  I believe that Edger Allan Poe wrote this poem because his wife was diagnosed with Tuberculosis on 1842 which was a disease that did not have a cure.  Edger Allan Poe knowing that this wife would die he felt sad so he wrote the poem to express the feeling that he would have in the time coming.

This poem reminds me of what a person feels when you lose someone that you care for, most people try to bury their problems by starting a hobby and in the poem he is reading so he does not remember the lost.  This poem remind me of the part in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire were Harry see those he has lost and it help him to defeat who he is fighting, this remind of the "Raven" because I believe the raven is a metaphor his wife.  I can relate to the poem the "Raven" because I have lost family members and certain times I see an object that reminds me of them. One of my favorite shows is "The Simpsons" and in one of the Halloween episodes they tell a scary story about a man that has trouble with a raven in it house.

Black Duck 2/9

Prompt  1.) Pretend your job is to write magazine ads. Create an ad for what you’ve been reading.  2.)Pretend you have special powers and could put yourself in your reading. Where

would you put yourself and why? How would you being there change the story? 3.) Pretend you are a talk show host and two characters are the guests on your show. Which characters would you chose and why? List two questions that you, the host, would ask each character.

Pages 155- 115

Are you looking for a book that is book about crime with murder suspense and great writing? If you have said yes to any these look no further you have found the book Black Duck. The book was written by Janet Taylor Lisle in the year 2006. The book follow a boy name Ruben Hart in 1929 during the prohibition.  Ruben and his friend Jeddy find a dead body while walking in the beach and they find two thing in his pocket a pouch of tobacco and a pipe on the dead man. They must find out who the man is why he was killed and who killed him?

If I had the superpower to put myself in the book I would go to the beginning of the book when Ruben and Jeddy find the dead body. I would go their because I would like to see the reaction on their face.  Another reason that I would like to be their is because I would like to see what they would do if someone (me) yell "LOOK THOSE BOYS KILLED THAT MAN." I wonder if they would run or just stay there.  I would also go to that specific time because I would stop the body from being taken and see how that would of effect the story. I would also see what would of have happen if they did not find the body would they have enough have to deal with the mobster?

If I was a talk show host I would invite Ruben and Jeddy to my show.  I would ask Ruben why he decide to take the tobacco pouch instead of leaving it? My second question would be why did he fight  with Jeddy since they have been best friends for many years?  I would ask Jeddy why did not trust Ruben and decided that would not listen to him again?  My second question would be the same that I ask Ruben why did he fight Jeddy.

The author.

Book Talk 2/2

Hi my name is Omar, I am currently reading the book Black Duck.  The book takes place
between 1929-1930 in a small city in Rhode Island.  The main character is Ruben he is a young
teenager. He was born in the early 1900s, he is an only child that lives with his mother and father.  The story begins with a boy named David, he is trying to find a story for the news paper, about the prohibition area after many decades of it happening.

After talking to many people he find Ruben. Ruben tells him that one day while walking down the beach with his best friend Jeddy they found a dead body.  They report to his sister Marina about this and when they go to find the dead body it is no were to be found.  The next day he talks to Jeddy and they decide to go to the beach and ask Tom a homeless man that lives at the beach about what he saw.  They talk to him they spend most of their day their and later that night Ruben goes to deliver medicine as told by his dad he see a boat coming in at the harbor which he believe is the black duck, an alcohol smuggling ship. He is asked to do a "job" for twenty dollars and when thing go wrong Ruben runs away.

After a few days after the "job" a new man comes into town and acts extremely friendly that is what I have read so far. I believe that theme of the book is that we should not get mad over the little thing that makes us made for those we care for I say this because in the bookJeddy and Ruben are having trouble with their friendship and they are drifting apart.   I believe it's because they are getting made at each other do to the dead body.
